Farming Guide

One of the most popular things to do is to “farm”. Farming is the repetitive killing of monsters with the chance of getting a good dropped item. In Rappelz, items that are mostly farmed for are pet cards, but can also be any item like armor, weapons, cubes, or event items.

To effectively decide the best way, and most importantly, the best location to farm, you will need to choose ahead of time what you will farm for. The item that you are wanting to drop will determine where you farm for it, in some cases, what type of mobs you will kill. Another thing that will determine the location will be your lvl.

Level-Specific Farming
It's very important to farm for your lvl. This will make farming faster and will yield higher drops. Since drops are based on a random number, it is obvious that the more you kill, the more chances you have to get an item. However, you cant just kill hundreds of mobs that are significantly lower than your lvl. When you choose a mob you can see it’s level, which will be a certain color. The color of the mob is based on it’s relationship to your level, and tells you about your chances of getting a decent a drop. This applies to all drops, regardless of the type (pet card, armor, cube, etc…). The following colors are found, and approximate drop results are as follows:
Purple: 9+ levels lower than you – yields no drops
Blue: 3-8 levels lower than you – yields very few drops
White: around your level, within 1-2 levels over/under – yields average drops
Bright Yellow: 3-5 levels over your level – yields best drops
Dark Yellow/Orange: 6-9 levels over your level – yields good drops
Red: 10+ levels over your level – yields average drops (seems lower to me)
I have found that the yellow to orange mobs yield the best drops and are also very fast and easy to kill. The kill speed here is very fast and should give the best results. Killing red names has been very slow typically, and in my own experience has not given any good drops.

Item-Specific Farming (non-pet card)
Farming is the best way to get the item that you want, other than to purchase it from another player or the CS. In order to go out farming for a specific item, you must first determine what you want, and where you can get it. There are specific areas that typically will drop the same or similar items. Skill cards are one example that drop from specific areas. For example, first level general skill cards like smite, creature taming, mental concentration, deep evasion, etc. all drop on trainee island. There are areas in The Relics of Arid Moonlight dungeon that drop cleric cards. Other areas there will drop strike and skill cubes. I have even found a room on the Navislamia ship where one of the witch’s pendants can be found that drop r2 strike cubes quite frequently. There are fan sites and also some guild’s websites that keep track of drops and where they are located. Use this information to determine where you need to farm for the specific item that you want to get. It is also very important to take into consideration the guidelines outlined in the level-specific section above, in order to achieve the best drop rate.

Pet-Specific Farming
Pet-specific farming is the repeated killing of the same type of mob in order to drop an empty pet card. This is a little more tricky than general item farming. There are two basic ways to farm for a specific pet card.

The most common way to get a specific pet is to kill mobs that are of the particular variety of pet that you hope to get. It has been stated that all creatures of a tamable type have a chance to drop that specific pet card. Furthermore, they should not drop any other pet card other than their type. So, if you want to get a Blue Pixie card, you can go to the field East of Laksy where the Blue Pixies are, or you can hunt them later at a higher level in the Pitch Black Woods (PBW). Repeated killing of these pixies will eventually result in a blue pixie card. I myself have dropped a blue pixie in PBW. Another example would be a salamander card. If you want to drop a salamander card, you could kill the salamander-type mobs in Ceru Desert. I have not had any luck here killing salamanders, but I have heard that it is possible, however they do not drop frequently. There is a map of pet card drop locations, the mobs they drop from, and the levels of those mobs that can be found on the Rappelz forums or by direct link here: i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/easeeas/Rappelz/pets.jpg

Another way to drop a pet card other than from the tamable type that you are hoping for, is to kill mobs based on their level and the pet tier system. Pets in Rappelz are organized in a tier system from common to rare. Farming for a specific pet card from a non tamable type takes into consideration all of the above information: You will need to know which specific mobs drop the pet that you want, you will need to know what levels those mobs are, as well as how many levels away from your level they are. GM Itoki has stated the following quote:
“Monsters not of a tamable type drop a specific assortment of pet cards. Low level monsters can drop Panteras, Poultries, and Tortuses. Mid-level monsters can drop Sirens, Red Pixies, Blue Pixies, etc. High level monsters drop Hawkmen and Salamanders. Very high level monsters drop Angels and Kentas. White Dragon and Cerberus cards ONLY drop from their respective monsters in the new dungeon...and one other foe”.
To further help illustrate the levels that these cards drop from, I will outline the pet tier system, and what level mobs can drop these cards.

Tier 1 (Level 1+ mobs): Pantera / Tortus / Poultry

Tier 2 (Level 30+ mobs): Orc / Blue Pixie / Red Pixie / Siren / Wolf / Yeti / Skeleton

Tier 3 (Level 90+ mobs): Hawkman / Salamander / Harpie

Tier 4 (Level 120+ mobs): Angels / Cerberus / Kenta / Gnoll

Tier 5 (Extremely Rare): White Dragon – only from White Dragons
Koala – only from Ursa Points or Ursa Boxes

Furthermore, I think that if you can farm a pet type in the level range for their respective tier, then you will greatly increase your chances of getting that pet card. For example, I have gotten a few Yeti cards outside of CV#2 Dungeon entrance. This level is within the tier for the Yeti from non-specific mobs, but I was also killing tons of yetis there. This would yield better results than farming extremely low level yetis around Laksy’s Anchor.

If you are looking for a specific type of pet, and your level falls within the range of both the pets you want to kill and the tier that they drop from, this is your best bet to drop this type of pet card. It has been asked of GM Itoki that since the normal field mob can drop 6 different types of pet cards (Tier 2, pre-Epic 6) and a specific pet-type can only drop it’s respective type of pet card, is the pet-specific type 6-times more likely to drop that pet card. Itoki answered yes to this question. Therefore, it is recommended to farm the pet-specific mobs to get the pet that you want.

Other Helpful Information
Kill speed is very important in farming. If you are following the outline for level-specific farming, use chips, carry pots and scrolls, and just kill kill kill, then you should start to see results. Farming is a very long process, and drops do not come that fast. Don’t get discouraged. It is not uncommon to camp a spot for days or even longer before you get the items that you want. Be prepared to use about 1000 chips, which should equate to about 1000 kills, per farming stretch. You should be 1-chip-killing the mobs for fast kill speed. It is recommended to upgrade your LAK necklace so that you can maximize your time in the field. LAK is a great way to get rank 1 to rank 3 chips for free, and will help offset the cost of rank 4 and higher chips. Just remember, one good drop can easily pay for a few days farming chips.

Above all this, farming should be fun. It is exciting to plan your area of attack and anticipate the great drops. It gets even more fun when the drops start falling, and your plan comes together. If you are new to farming, I would suggest starting during a drop event, if possible. This maximizes your time in the field, because you are getting event items too. Drop events are what started my love for farming. So go out there and get started on farming, and have fun. Enjoy.
